Trauma
Feeling numb, angry or on edge? Struggling with nightmares, body aches or hurtful memories that won't stop? Loved ones seem to just not get you or you just don't fit in? Whatever symptoms you are experiencing, they all seem to be connected to the same underlying memories or thoughts? If this sounds familiar to you, you are probably one of many people who are struggling with trauma related issues. EMDR therapy and counseling can help you getting unstuck.
Psychological trauma is an emotional response to either witnessing or experiencing a severe and/or life threatening event (i.e. abuse, accident, loss, etc.). The amount of stress one can tolerate varies depending on genetics, availability of resources and coping skills. Typical immediate reactions are shock and denial. Long-term responses comprise unpredictable feelings, flashbacks, tense relationships, and physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. Though these feelings are common, sometimes a person struggles moving on with his/her life.
Talking to a trained psychotherapist can help you find useful ways of controlling emotions and processing the anxiety provoking memories.
I use an array of counseling techniques in my work with trauma and abuse victims. I have been trained in approaches like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavior therapy) and TF-CBT (Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavior Therapy) to help individuals of various ages find relieve from their upsetting past. My goal is to support you in processing these experiences and empowering you to live a fulfilled life. I am a certified EMDR therapist.
